Post-Installed Anchor Rod Testing
One of the many upgrade designs being used on existing telecommunication towers, especially monopoles, is the addition of new anchor rods. However, until now very few firms have had the ability to both quickly and economically test these newly installed anchors to verify they have the design capacity required to assure the integrity of the structure.
IETS worked with a specialty cylinder manufacturer to develop new test equipment that will allow both quick turn around time and be economical as well. To achieve this requirement the equipment was designed for use by a single technician and easily transportable. It also needed to be small enough to fit into relatively tight spaces and is capable of meeting the applicable testing standards.
We are proud to now introduce this new field service to the telecommunications industry.
Test Equipment Capacity:
Our new test equipment is capable of testing anchor rods up to 2 1/4" in diameter. The test equipment has the ability to apply a maximum load of 239,000 pounds to an anchor rod. The required clearance around the test cylinder is a mere 2 9/16" from the centerline of the anchor being tested.
We have designed our equipment to allow a single technician to bring the equipment to the site, perform the tests, and complete the testing report while still at the site.
Our testing procedure meets or exceeds the requirements of ASTM E 488-96 (2003) Standard Test Methods for Strength of Anchors in Concrete and Masonry Elements and Crown Castle Specification for Testing Post-Installed Anchor Rods ENG-PRC-10119.
Test Pricing:
We have designed out automated reporting system to allow testing for up to 6 bolts for one set price of $3500. Volume pricing is available. There will be an additional cost for shipping and/or travel when the distance to the site exceeds 200 miles from one of our 3 office locations. Due to the daily increases in airfare and fuel costs the price for travel and shipping will be quoted individually for each project.
